Chinese Rock Music Samples
Chinese rock music is fairly hard to find, so unless you're
reading this from a major city you probably can't easily listen
to any good music. I'm not talking about the
unoriginal tripe that is created by the truckload in
Hong Kong, I'm talking about quality music, in this case
from mainland China. Specific bands I'm including in this
category are
Cobra,
Cui Jian,
He Yong,
Zhang Chu,
Hei Bao,
Tang Dynasty,
and many others.
Unfortunately, storing quality music on a harddisk takes a
lot of space, and I'm paying my Internet provider by the
megabyte, so I have made some significant compromises:
- Only four or five song samples will be online at any
time.
- Rather than trying to pick a small number of songs that
are worthy of inclusion here, I am going to rotate
through a larger collection of samples. Each sample I
put online will be kept here for at least one week,
probably longer. You'll have to check back weekly to
make sure you don't miss anything.
- I'm providing the samples in a single audio format: the
Windows .WAV format. If I get a lot of requests
to support .AU instead, I might change, but I
don't have enough online disk space to provide the
samples in both formats. If you can't play a
.WAV file, consider getting sox to
convert the format, or bug your sysadmin to install a
decent audio player program!
- Audio samples are short, typically 30-60 seconds.
Obviously, this means you don't get the entire song, just
a taste.
- The samples are monophonic, sampled at 8k hz. This means
they aren't going to sound very good. My goal isn't to
give you an excuse not to buy a CD, just to give you an
idea of what Chinese rock music sounds like!
